dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of occupational safety and health management
practices on organizational performance in the case of selected Grade-1 building construction
companies in Addis Ababa. Quantitative research approach along with explanatory research
design was applied to examine the relationship between occupational safety and health
variables and organizational performance. Employees of the selected construction companies
were considered as target population, of which a total of 272 usable and valid responses were
obtained through convenience non-probability sampling technique. The data set obtained from
private building construction enterprises through self-administered questionnaire were
analyzed by multiple linear regression model with the help of SPSS 21.0. Both descriptive and
inferential statistics were adopted to investigate the relationship of the stated variables. Results
of the findings revealed that such occupational safety and health management practices as
safety procedures and risk management, safety and health rules, first aid support and training,
and organizational safety support had a positive effect on organizational performance.
Moreover, it was seen that safety occupational safety support and safety procedure & risk
management positively and strongly affect organizational performance. It can, thus, be
concluded that all the five dimensions of occupational safety and health practices had positive
and statistically significant effect on the performance of construction companies in Addis
